Professional Indemnity Insurance Consultation

The Department of Health (DH) is currently consulting on draft legislation which will make holding an appropriate indemnity arrangement compulsory for all healthcare professionals, including nurses and midwives.

Most nurses and midwives are already covered by their employers arrangements or their own individual arrangements with insurance companies or professional bodies.

However, all nurses and midwives will need to ensure that they are covered by an insurance or indemnity arrangement appropriate to their scope of practice in order to register with us.

The consultation closes on Friday 17 May. The NMC encourages nurses and midwives to respond.
