Nurses Who Don't Show Compassion May Be Struck Off

A review of nurses' code of conduct could mean staff may face formal disciplinary action if they display an uncaring attitude.

Nursing Standard reports this week that the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is to discuss adding the word 'compassion' to the nurses' code.

The move is a response to the report by Robert Francis QC highlighting poor care in Mid Staffordshire.

Boom in applications for nursing degree courses

Also in the latest Nursing Standard: the number of people applying for nursing degrees has soared over the last five years. But the would-be nurses are chasing fewer places.

New figures from the Universities and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS) show there were nearly 12,000 more applications since last year.
