Nurses and Midwives' Professional Registration Fee could Increase by an Inflation Busting 20%

GMB will work with other unions to lobby the Department of Health to ask that this decision is reconsidered and GMB members will respond to the consultation robustly

GMB, the union for nurses in the NHS and care sector, commented on the announcement by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) of its intention to consult on a possible increase of its registration fee to £120.

Rehana Azam, GMB National Officer for the NHS, said 'If the attack on pay isn't enough now the nurses and midwives professional registration fee could increase by an inflation busting 20%.

In the light of the pay offer this Nursing and Midwifery Council's decision to begin a consultation on a proposed increase of 20% fails to recognise the potential personal financial consequences this could cause to nurses and midwives working tirelessly across our wards, GP surgeries and community services.

Only two years ago we saw an increase in registration fees. It appears that hard working frontline staff are being unfairly targeted by Government, Employers and now by Professional Regulators.

GMB will work with other Nursing Unions to lobby the Department of Health to ask that this decision is reconsidered. GMB members will respond robustly to the consultation.
