A&E has 'worst week' in England

England is the only place to publish weekly A&E data every week. Elsewhere it is published on a monthly or quarterly basis.

This week's figures for England:

95%   84.7%   89.8%
target for patients seen in 4 hours at A&E   patients seen in 4 hours at major A&E hospitals   patients seen in 4 hours at all A&E units

The additional pressures of cold weather, norovirus and flu have an impact on all A&E departments across the UK.

Rest of UK: Four-hour performance in all A&Es:

80.5%   93.5%   83.8%
Northern Ireland (Nov). Target is 95%   Scotland (Sep). Target is 98%   Wales (Nov). Target is 95%

The additional pressures of cold weather, norovirus and flu have an impact on all A&E departments across the UK.

Analysis

By Nick Triggle, Health correspondent, BBC News

Performance against the four-hour target in England has hit an all-time low since weekly monitoring began in 2010.

On a whole host of other measures from emergency admissions to trolley waits and delayed discharges, the warning signs are there too. How this compares to the rest of the UK is a little hard to tell. Wales and Northern Ireland certainly seem to be in a worse position with data from November showing under 85% of patients were dealt with in four hours.

Scotland is seeing 93.5% of patients in four hours, but remember that data is from September when the pressures were less great.
