The successful candidate will chair and lead the Council and contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation as well as encouraging accountability to the public and the professions on the HCPC Register.

The role also acts as the primary ambassador for the HCPC representing the interests of statutory regulation to outside bodies and the organisation at conferences, meetings and other events.

Potential candidates will have experience of providing strong leadership and will also be able to uphold the HCPC’s principles of transparency and accountability. They will inspire confidence in the organisation and promote the HCPC’s central commitment to public protection. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate high standards of corporate and personal conduct, including impartiality, objectivity and integrity in the implementation of the role and responsibilities.

Anna van der Gaag, Chair of HCPC commented:

“The role of the Chair is to provide clear strategic leadership for the organisation, working closely with the Council and the Executive to keep the objective of the organisation - that of public protection - at the heart of all decision making. It is also crucial the Chair takes an active role in working alongside and collaborating with all the HCPC’s stakeholders.”

“The HCPC is a fantastic organisation to be part of. It has a strong "can do" culture running through it and the people who work here are highly committed, hard-working and focused on achieving HCPC’s objectives.
